Defeat and humiliation are all the Union army on the eastern front seems to know at this point; defeated at Bull Run, thwarted during the 7 days, humiliated at 2nd Manassas, held to a bloody draw at Sharpsburg, bloodied at Fredericksburg, and routed at Chancellorsville. It had gone threw its share of generals all unbelievably worse than the previous. Morale was low and support dwindling by the day. Battle fell into an impossible scenario it seemed, it had become monotonous, fighting, dying, retreating only to repeat again and lose more men. With the obvious lack of competent generals it almost seemed as if the Union was its own worst enemy.
The last defeat at Chancellorsville had been a mixed blessing. It had seen the death of arguably the best field commander of the war, Stonewall Jackson, but had also thrown the Union once again back on its heels. Following the victory Lee made way for his second invasion of the North detouring into the small town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Meanwhile the Union army played catch up to halt this alarming advance and met the Rebels in force at Gettysburg. What would become the bloodiest battle in the western Hemisphere and in American History is now yours to decide. Who will take command of the Union army in its time of need? Who will replace Stonewall and turn the tide of the battle? What will happen next?
